The exterior of this building is defined by a strong visual image of a folding roof plane, which was inspired by origami. The exterior walls fold upwards to become a roof plane with a saw tooth-profile that envelopes the fully-glazed restaurant below. The glazed facade creates a sense of flowing space between the plaza and restaurant, creating a new space on the downtown boulevard. The copper roof appears as a casing for the restaurant, and creates a new shining image for the gourmet industry in Dubai.
The folding roof and wall planes permit a reading of the building as an inhabited sculpture, a piece of origami built in the scale of a building. This sculpture is pierced by a thread of light which flows through the fully glazed facade.
