From the exterior this house appears as two contrasting yet adjacent volumes. A rectangular white volume carved by rectangular windows sits against a smaller rectangular volume. The travertine walls of the second volume fold upwards like origami to form external spaces on the first floor. Vertical windows carved into the face form a strong architectonic image, creating the appearance of an inhabited sculpture.
The focal point of this project is the garden, which seemingly blends into the glazed ground floor, creating a sense of porosity between interior and exterior. Reflections in the ground floor glazing create the illusion that the garden continues inside the house, an illusion which is further emphasized by the introduction of some greenery into the ground floor spaces with the creation of an orangery room. The glazed ground floor is spacious and light, which adds to the relaxing atmosphere within the house.
